BIPOLAR AND PERSONALITY DISORDERS TREATMENT

What is Bipolar Disorder?

Bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depressive illness, is a brain disorder that causes unusual shifts in a person’s mood, energy, and ability to function. Different from the normal ups and downs that everyone goes through, the symptoms of bipolar disorder are severe.

Bipolar disorder typically develops in late adolescence or early adulthood, although some people have their first symptoms during childhood. Many go undiagnosed and untreated. Like diabetes or heart disease, bipolar disorder must be carefully managed throughout a person’s life.

Bipolar Symptoms Alternate Between Manic and Depressive Episodes

  • High energy

  • Reduced need for sleep

  • Loss of touch with reality

  • Low energy

  • Low motivation

  • Loss of interest in daily activities

Therapy for Bipolar & Personality Disorders

Neurofeedback can improve the lives of those with bipolar disorder by retraining the brain to have more emotional regulation.  The therapy can help mood swings become more manageable, and lessen feelings of depression and anxiety.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy helps people with bipolar disorder learn to improve their thought patterns, behaviors, and mindsets to have a higher quality of life. A multifactorial approach is crucial to treating these types of disorders, as many distrust or feel uncomfortable only taking medication.

In addition, keeping a chart of daily mood symptoms, treatments, sleep patterns, and life events may help people with bipolar disorder and their families to better understand the illness. This chart also can help the doctor track and treat the illness most effectively.

How can you identify Bipolar Disorder?

We provide the most comprehensive and extensive diagnostic tools to effectively diagnose and manage bipolar and other personality disorders. This typically consists of a qEEG brain map assessment and a neuropsychological screening.
